meshwork
is a collaboration between Patrick Craig and Nicole Neveu (www.canberrayoga.com). Our objective is to disseminate tools and techniques that cultivate one’s sense of being in ‘neutral’ - a state of relaxed embodiment.

Our workshops are a synthesis of our clinical and teaching experience - forming a reservoir of well digested material that is presented in lucid technical, theoretical and practical form.

We have developed 4 sequential core modules, each consisting of 3 sessions.

module I - towards neutral
provides the foundation of all successive training with meshwork through practical physiological understandings and experiences of neutral somatic and mental states.

The state of being in neutral is indwelling, maintains physiological balance and restores the organism as a whole.

This module focuses on enabling us to access neutral and integrate the benefits. Essential tools and processes will be explored, practiced and deepened over 3 sessions.

module II - breath
explores comparative applications and notions of breath including; functional anatomy, the biomechanics of respiration, neuroendocrine benefits, diverse functions of healthy and unrestricted respiration, and in particular the spatial orientation of the breath and its relative effects on the body.

Participants will have the opportunity to sense and experience particular modes of breathing. These insights will be applied to deepen the experience of neutral states.

module III - posture
an opportunity to actively examine ill-founded postural and body image myths and move beyond rigid motor control patterns towards dynamic equilibrium.

We will explore posture through musculoskeletal organisation particularly quadrupedal muscle patterns and their implications in daily activity.

We will include experiential movement practices that increase awareness of how we engage the body in relation to gravity, natural spinal curves and resting muscle tone.

module IV - motion & movement
draws upon the embodiment and sensitivity developed through the first 3 modules to explore self-organising involuntary motion as well as relaxed movement practices.

Participants will be instructed on processes that transform habitual movement patterns and the fascial constraints that inscribe them. We will include movement practices that enhance whole body integration, awareness and proprioception.

Some specific regional therapeutic applications will be taught.

meshwork applied modules
these include:

the pre- and post-natal body - childbirth
regional rehabilitation and integration through movement
static overload and occupational overuse
terminal illness and transformative disease processes

what is this meshwork thingy?
meshwork is evocative of the strength that develops from collaboration and the binding together of compatible approaches and practitioners. meshwork is also a reasonably good metaphor for fascia - the dynamic scaffold that holds us together. The resilience and function of fascia is integral to therapeutic outcomes and movement practices. meshworks like networks are complex systems of self-regulation and organisation - all biological and physiological systems are organised through complex networks of precisely regulated and buffered processes - or more simply put homeostasis.
